The council’s public safety committee reported an arrest in a retail-theft incident at Dick’s Sporting Goods, describing an event around 10:50 a.m. in which two females allegedly loaded a cart with a large quantity of merchandise, fled toward a gray Acura and were arrested after a responding officer intervened. The committee’s report said the suspects were believed to be connected to similar thefts in other jurisdictions and that the stolen merchandise was valued at more than $3,000.
Separately, the Westminster Police Department announced that Officer Justin Dean has completed his field-training officer (FTO) period and is now assigned to solo patrol. Police and council members recognized the officer’s completion of training during departmental reports.
The committee’s theft report and the personnel update were informational; the council did not take formal action related to the incident during the meeting.
