McDaniel College reopens renovated track to community and announces new legacy scholarships

McDaniel College informed the Westminster Common Council that its renovated track around the college stadium is again open to community use when teams are not practicing or competing. Erin Benevento, chief of staff at McDaniel, told council members the track was dedicated over homecoming weekend and is available to residents subject to team scheduling.

Benevento said the college will also add several new legacy scholarships aimed at expanding tuition support. The scholarships will be available to children or dependents of first responders, health-care professionals and government employees, with applications opening for students who would begin college in fall 2026. Benevento told the council the scholarship value could be as much as $132,000 over four years for eligible students.

The presentation included event and outreach notes: McDaniel’s Parent & Family Weekend is scheduled for Nov. 14–16, and college officials said downtown business and community groups will participate in campus events. Benevento said formal announcements and press materials would be distributed by the college the next day and encouraged council members and residents to look for details online.

The council did not take formal action on the college’s announcements; the report was presented for information and community engagement purposes.
