John Hancock told the El Campo City Council during public comment on Oct. 27 that he participated in the city's recent Fall Sweep and praised the El Campo Beautiful committee and city employees for their work. Hancock said volunteers and city staff worked in the rain and that the group helped residents who could not remove large items from their yards.
Hancock said Bill Smart reported about 11 requests from households that could not manage large debris and that city staff contacted local contractor Billy Freeman, who provided a pickup, trailer and four employees to clear the debris. Hancock said volunteer Crystal assisted in directing traffic and coordinating the effort.
Council members thanked volunteers and staff during the meeting. No formal action or funding requests related to the cleanup were taken at the meeting; the remarks were made during the public comment portion of the agenda.
