Board approves 2026–27 district calendar after committee recommendation

The Ogden City School District board voted Oct. 1 to approve the calendar committee’s recommended 2026–27 calendar (Option 1).
Jessica Blannington, who led the calendar presentation, summarized survey participation and committee deliberations and said the committee prioritized two full weeks of winter break, ending school before Memorial Day, starting school as late as possible, and a full spring break week. She told trustees that in response to survey feedback the committee removed at‑home asynchronous learning days from next year’s options so students would not lose face‑to‑face instructional time: “Yes, deep data dives are extremely important. Those need to remain. Educators need time to be able to dive into what students are demonstrating in their academics, but please do it in a way that doesn't stop students from coming to school,” Blannington said, explaining the committee’s decision.
The approved calendar preserves a late start and two full weeks of winter break and documents two potential makeup days (June 1 and June 2) in case of closures. The board motion to adopt Option 1 was made by Board Member Peterson, seconded by Board Member Nunley, and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: District staff said they will distribute the calendar, the survey results, and a frequently asked questions document to families and staff to explain the committee’s choices and the tradeoffs in calendar construction.
