Commissioners approve rear-lot rezoning so family may place manufactured home

LEXINGTON, N.C. — The Davidson County Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning request Oct. 27 from Donald and Robin Hedrick that rezones about 6.23 acres in Emmons Township from RS to RA2, allowing a single-wide manufactured home on the rear portion of their property for a family member.
The Hedricks said their goal was to provide land for their son and his family so they can live nearby as the Hedricks age. “What we're gonna do is, our son needs some land to put a single wide home on for his family, and this would be free to him,” one speaker said.
Planning staff told the board the property was originally zoned in 1990 and that the applicant agreed to rezone only the back portion while leaving the front section RS, preserving an uninterrupted stretch of RS zoning along Canyon Church Road. Staff recommended approval as consistent with the Davidson County Land Development Plan and the local zoning ordinance.
With no public opposition at the hearing, the board approved the request by voice vote after a motion and second.
