Jersey Shore YMCA tells board its after-school programs serve about 140 children

Christine Kinney and Alyssa Meyer of the Jersey Shore YMCA told the board the Y provides after-school care at Avis and Jersey Shore elementary schools and runs a free "Brick House" program for middle- and high-school students.
Alyssa Meyer, childcare director for the Jersey Shore Y, said the Y has been partnering with the district for more than 20 years and that staff recently revamped childcare offerings after the closure of Salidaysburg. "We have been serving partnering with you guys for over 20 years," Meyer said. She told the board the Y served about 140 children in after-school care during the past year and that teachers have regularly assisted Y staff with homework and reading goals.
Meyer said the Brick House program provides a supervised, no-cost space for middle- and high-school students so they "'re not just roaming around town." The Y operates after-school programs at Avis Elementary and Jersey Shore Elementary and at the Y facility.
Board members acknowledged the presentation and the district thanked the YMCA representatives for their long-running partnership.
