Depew trustees approve lease amendment with Upstate Tower to add emergency-services space
Summary
The Village of Depew board authorized Mayor Kevin J. Peterson to sign an amendment to the Upstate Tower Company LLC lease that reduces village tower revenue slightly in exchange for additional space to install emergency-services equipment for police and other first responders.
Trustees on Oct. 27 approved an amendment to the lease with Upstate Tower Company LLC that village officials said secures additional antenna and equipment space for emergency services while accepting a modest decrease in tower revenue.
Attorney Samuel A. Alba described the negotiation as part of a long-running issue: the existing lease provided only a small amount of space for emergency services and carriers had not been placed on all towers, limiting revenue. Under the approved amendment, the village will receive slightly less revenue but will be able to install police and emergency communications equipment on the towers, which the police chief and other staff said will improve public-safety communications and officer safety.
Trustees voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to sign the amendment; the board recorded a roll-call vote and the motion carried.
