At the Oct. 28 meeting the Klamath County Board of Commissioners approved an order authorizing the county treasurer to make advance tax payments to small taxing districts whose assessed value or assessed taxes are $25,000 or less. The treasurer said monthly distributions to many small districts are minimal and expensive for the county to process individually.
The board cited Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 311.392, which allows a county to pay distributions in advance and adjust the county’s percentage to reimburse the county for funds advanced. If completed before Dec. 1, the county may deduct 3% from the advance — the percentage that would have applied for the earlier payment date of Nov. 15. The board approved an advance payment totaling $195,501.75 from the county general fund; staff said the treasurer will manage reimbursements and adjust collateral or advances as necessary.
