Government affairs committee meets with legislators; board follows special-education funding study

"Doctor Brenner shared some feedback on some of the new laws that were enacted and how they're actually, kind of filtering out through the schools," Flynn said, adding the meeting provided an opportunity for legislators to hear district perspectives. She referenced the "Bell to Bell" Act as one law being discussed in practice.
Committee members said they intend to use the interim period for outreach and planning with legislators. Brandon and business manager Bambach reported that Bambach was selected to serve on a state special education interim study committee that will examine student outcomes for special education, teacher shortages in special education and the funding formula. Bambach said the interim committee will hold up to five meetings and the board's November meeting will focus on the funding-formula component.
Board members said they appreciated the legislators' responsiveness and described the committee as a vehicle for sustained communication ahead of the next legislative session. No board-level policy action was taken Oct. 27.
