Following an executive session to discuss personnel matters, the City and Borough of Juneau assembly reported motions in open session approving compensation adjustments for the city manager and the city attorney.
City manager: Assembly member Adkisson moved a compensation package for City Manager Katie Kester that included a 3% cost-of-living (COLA) increase effective July 14, 2025; a $2,750 one-time lump-sum payment retroactive to July 14, 2025; and a 3.5% merit increase effective Sept. 8, 2025. The motion set Kester's annual salary at $228,384 retroactive to July 14, 2025 and $236,371.20 retroactive to Sept. 8, 2025. The motion was adopted by unanimous consent.
City attorney: Assembly member Adkisson moved a compensation package for City Attorney Emily Wright consisting of a 3% COLA effective July 14, 2025 and a 7.75% merit increase effective Aug. 25, 2025. The motion set Wright's annual salary to $193,648 retroactive to July 14, 2025 and $208,665.60 retroactive to Aug. 25, 2025. The motion was adopted by unanimous consent.
Assembly remarks: The mayor and members acknowledged the managers' and attorney's evaluations and contributions; members noted the increases align with similar adjustments for unrepresented employees and prior compensation levels for predecessors.
