Livingston County appoints two to Planning Commission after public comment and personnel debate

Public comment before the vote included multiple speakers who urged the board to select the candidate with more planning experience, noting recent planning challenges such as utility-scale solar and data-center proposals. Brian Procutta and Bill Anderson, both current or former planning commission chairs, told commissioners the commission needs experienced members and asked personnel to include the planning director and planning commission chair in candidate reviews.
During discussion on the dais, Commissioner Nakagiri denied exerting influence over a recommendation that had been criticized in public comment and called the claim “fake news.” Commissioner Hauserman and others clarified which names were included in the personnel committee resolution. The clerk recited the names in the resolution and the board took a voice vote; the motion carried.
