Livingston County amends building permit fee schedule; board clarifies effect and timing

The Livingston County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution 2025-10-139 on Oct. 27, authorizing adjustments to the county’s building permit fee calculations, including a change to the multiplier used to calculate fees and other upward adjustments.
Commissioner Sample moved the resolution and Commissioner Deaton seconded. During discussion commissioners noted a discrepancy between the resolution’s title (which described a reduction in the multiplier) and its effect. A commissioner clarified that the schedule in fact raises the multiplier by about 2 percent and that many of the other adjustments were upward. Staff also advised that, because this is a resolution rather than a binding multi-year contract, the board will need to revisit and reauthorize the schedule before the end of the current board term in 2029.
The board approved the resolution by roll call, 9–0.
Action and next steps: staff will implement the amended fee schedule and return in future years for reauthorization as required by board term limits and county practice.
