Montezuma County commissioners approve $3.6 million in September payables; remove turf-resolution from consent agenda

County staff member Robert presented the payment totals to the board, saying, “The payroll total is $1,048,784.06. That total is $2,083,769.46. And then the grand total, which also includes senior and transport senior services transportation fund, as well as social services, is $3,599,800.99.” The board moved, seconded and approved the payables by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting the chair announced the removal of “a resolution adopting a prohibition against nonfunctional turf to conserve water in accordance to s b 24 0 0 5” from the consent agenda; the chair did not provide additional detail about the cited item during the meeting. The consent agenda, with that item removed, was then approved by voice vote.
Kim Purcell, identified in the meeting as elections staff, reminded voters that next Tuesday is election day and urged them not to mail ballots. “Don’t mail them. Bring them in. They won’t make it in time,” Purcell said, and noted that drop boxes were open and that the VSPC had posted hours.
Commissioner Lindsey reported two constituent assistance matters had been resolved with help from state legislators, naming Senator Cleve Simpson and Representative Soukla. Commissioner Gopenhofer updated the board on a county reservoir gate that has been leaking, saying silt buildup in the tunnel will need to be removed before repairs and that water refilling is expected after Nov. 1, the start of the new water year.
The chair (name not specified in the transcript) said the county’s traveling town hall and “coffee with the county” events have produced useful dialogue, recapped a public lands budget briefing, noted road-and-bridge interviews with three candidates and summarized a workshop with the Colorado Department of Transportation and a meeting with Congressman Hurd about SNAP and the federal shutdown. The meeting adjourned following a motion and voice vote.
