Proviso District reports emergency plumbing fixes, door alarms and plans to rebid athletic surface work after student complaints

Facilities staff described an emergency repair to a condensate riser pipe that required emergency plumbing to restore heating systems, plumbing pipe replacements at Proviso West and an intergovernmental coordination to maintain water pressure and fire hydrant service during repairs. Staff also said furniture deliveries and defective replacements were completed at the Math and Science Academy and that crews are winterizing cooling towers and preparing snow‑removal supplies.
The district said it has added door alarm devices to multiple exterior doors—"If a kid or anyone pushes the door open, it will initiate an alarm," a facilities presenter said—to alert security and building principals. The district also described nightly deep‑cleaning for heavy‑use areas with a commercial sweeper/shampoo machine and ongoing targeted maintenance.
On bidding for athletic work, staff said the district plans to post a solicitation around Nov. 15 for restriping and related small‑value work. "We plan to have it out to bid around, like, November 15 at the latest," a presenter said, and expects a recommendation to the board by January.
Public comment and a later board exchange raised concerns about the condition and maintenance of the track and stadium. A student identified only as Adrian urged improved equipment and repairs to holes that he said had led to injuries: "We had an amazing season. How much stadiums are the stadium feels there have been holes, twist our ankles. Got them in the injuries, that needs to be fixed for sure," Adrian said.
A board member said the district will conduct a 360‑degree photo review of the field house and provide the images to Dr. Eric Perez for follow‑up. Facilities staff said they will assemble an action plan to address the board member's concerns.
No formal vote occurred on facilities projects during this meeting; staff said some work is underway and other items (the athletic re‑striping) will follow an advertised bid process because the project exceeds the $25,000 advertising threshold.
