The North and East Burial Ground Commission informed the Town Council on Oct. 22 that two new columbariums (192 niches total) at the cremation garden will be available for sale beginning Nov. 1. The commission presented updated property-ownership prices for columbarium niches and bronze memorials and told the council it was not changing opening-and-closing service fees.
Commission representatives said the fee changes on the agenda reflected new inventory rather than a change to service charges. The solicitor advised that fee schedules are town-council matters, and the council voted to approve the updated ownership prices and add the new inventory to the cemetery fee schedule.
Councilors asked whether the new prices were comparable to market rates; the commission said similar local comparisons are limited but that the prices were in line with national averages for comparable inventory.
