Board approves FY26 grants, facilities work and new student clubs in unanimous votes

The board also approved the FY25 LEA compliance report required to show adherence to federal and state education laws and State Board of Education rules, and accepted the FY25 internal school funds audit conducted by Brown, Jake & McDaniel, which the superintendent said reflected consistent fiscal management.
Capital and facilities items approved included a pivot-style band saw from Capital Group for $31,140 to be paid from the Carl Perkins reserve grant, and a replacement of the stage roof at Linden Elementary by Rackley Roofing Incorporated for $75,813.35. The superintendent noted the city manager will present the roofing recommendation to the city’s budget and finance committee on Oct. 30 and that final funding remains to be determined.
Student enrichment items approved were new Innovation Labs at Linden and Willowbrook intended to provide inclusive STEAM learning opportunities, and a new Oak Ridge High School Rocket Club for model rocket construction and launches to demonstrate applied physics and engineering concepts.
Each motion was made on the superintendent’s recommendation and passed unanimously. Motions were typically moved and seconded on the record (for example, the agenda motion was made by Miss Webb and seconded by Dr. Hartman).
