The Waynesboro City Council on Oct. 27 granted a conditional-use permit (CUP) allowing a multifamily building in the Central Business District at 620 West Main Street, the former General Wayne Hotel.
During second consideration, City staff asked Ms. Michaelson to restate the previous meeting's position and to clarify whether the CUP condition "subject to purchase of the property by Miller and Associates" would make the permit exclusively applicable to that developer. Ms. Michaelson stated that the condition "does not make the CUP solely applicable to Miller and Associates," meaning the CUP would continue if the property were later sold. A council member clarified that the intent was to associate the approval with the applicant as an experienced developer while recognizing the applicant could sell the property after acquisition.
Following that clarification, council voted to grant the conditional-use permit; the chair announced the tally as 5-0. No amendments, conditions tying the permit to a fixed term, or budgetary commitments were recorded on the meeting record.
