Waynesboro council proclaims Oct. 28 National First Responders Day, recognizes local emergency personnel

The Waynesboro City Council on Oct. 27 designated Oct. 28, 2025, as National First Responders Day and recognized members of local emergency-service agencies for their service and cooperation during incidents.
Mayor Kenneth B. Lee Sr read the proclamation, which thanked firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, 9-1-1 operators, first-aid crews and public works staff and urged citizens to "join in activities, events, and ceremonies paying tribute to our public works, firefighters, police, sheriff deputies, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, 9-1-1 operators, and other emergency personnel." The proclamation notes that Congress designated the day in 2017 and called attention to interagency response efforts during serious weather or man-made incidents.
Representatives who came forward for recognition included Fire Chief Andrew Holloway, EOC representative Gary Kreitzer, first-aid crew member Steve Ward, officers from the Waynesboro Police Department and multiple public-works employees named by staff. Council members thanked the agencies and noted the role emergency personnel play in public safety and in making Waynesboro a desirable place to live.
No formal action beyond the proclamation was requested of the council, and staff arranged a group photo with the recognized personnel following the reading.
