Commission approves seawall replacement permit for Big Sand Lake property (SADF2506017)

The environmental programs administrator, Tom Hall, told the board the existing concrete wall (approximately 100 feet) appeared to date from the late 1990s and no enforcement action was pursued. The proposed wall would be landward of a platted conservation buffer easement (dedicated to Orange County and the South Florida Water Management District) and landward of the lake’s normal high‑water elevation.
Conditions and findings: EPD staff said abundant shoreline vegetation meant no additional required plantings; riprap will be installed and placed landward of the conservation easement per the plans. Staff found the application consistent with Orange County Code chapter 15, article 6 and section 15‑2‑18 standards and received no objections from notified neighbors.
Board action: Commissioner Wilson moved approval and Commissioner Scott seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
