District reports class‑size averages, staff say ratios largely within state guidelines

Danville Public Schools staff presented an update on class sizes across the district on Sept. 18, 2025, reporting that most elementary and middle‑school averages met state guidance and that the district is monitoring a small number of high‑school sections that exceed target ratios.
Miss Hilton told the board that kindergarten classes are at or below the state standard (district uses a 24:1 target for early grades) and that paraprofessionals are assigned where needed. For grades 1–3 the district monitors a 24:1 target; grades 4–5 have a higher maximum threshold under state standards and the district reported averages below that cap.
At the high‑school level staff noted some larger sections (history classes at 35 in one case) and are working with building administrators to reduce those enrollments or provide support. CTE and Innovate Academy averages are being verified because the district’s exclusion of self‑contained special‑education enrollments affects the computed averages.
Board members asked about continued monitoring and staffing adjustments; staff said they will continue to review enrollment throughout September and will hire or reassign personnel as needed to meet state reporting requirements.
