Commission hears update on apron cracking, AWOS and aircraft left on ramp

Commissioners received an operational update from the airport manager at the Oct. 27 meeting, including airfield observations from a recent site walk and ongoing efforts to address aircraft and equipment stored on the ramp.
The airport manager said a poster was placed on the building door advising pilots to check the AWOS radio frequency for the door code and noted that while telephone access to the AWOS produced a "little bit of a scratch," pilots using the on‑site radio could hear the AWOS clearly. "I've had other pilots telling [me] that too," the manager said, reporting the device is functioning for on‑site users.
Commissioners pointed out cracking on apron areas and other rough spots visible from the terminal. The manager said those areas will be part of the current design project, which is in the design phase only at this point, and that engineers will be asked to incorporate the additional rough locations.
Members also discussed at length an aircraft — identified in the meeting as a Cherokee — that has been parked on the ramp since July. Commissioners reported multiple attempts to contact the registered owner. One commissioner urged staff to make clear to the owner that the town would remove the aircraft at the owner's expense if it is not moved. The commission discussed alternatives, including possible use of the plane by the fire department for training if it remains unclaimed.
No formal motion was made regarding immediate removal during the Oct. 27 session; staff said they will continue contacting the owner and report back at a future meeting.
