CEC District 28 appoints Nikita Williams to open council seat after executive session vote

The Community Education Council (CEC) for District 28 voted Oct. 9 to appoint Nikita Williams to an open council seat following candidate interviews and an executive-session review.
The council interviewed multiple candidates to fill vacancies created after Councilmember Dean Tolbert’s resignation. After an executive session, the council held a roll-call vote on Williams’s appointment. The recorded votes in favor included first vice president Lauren Clavin, second vice president Jennifer Sobers, recording secretary Chantal Chambers, treasurer Alicia Bauer, council members Lu Zhao, Annie Cole and President Quentin Mezzetin; the tally met the council’s threshold for appointment.
President Quentin Mezzetin announced the outcome after the roll call and welcomed Williams to the board. Two other candidates — Lori Garcia and Gurumurthy Kalyanaram — were put to a vote but did not receive the seven votes required for election, leaving two vacancies still open. Council members said the openings would be posted so other qualified applicants could apply.
The council recorded the resignation of Dean Tolbert earlier in the meeting. Members said the board would maintain outreach to the community and encouraged interested residents to apply for the remaining vacancies.
