Lemont board honors longtime volunteer Barb Bushman with tribute and honorary street name

Mayor John Egofsky on behalf of the Village of Lemont opened Monday’s meeting with an extended tribute to Barb Bushman, who died about six weeks earlier. Egofsky described Bushman as a "driving force" in historic preservation, volunteerism and local boards and commissions and said the village would designate an honorary street name, "Barb Bushman Way."
Former Mayor Rick Kwasniewski, Lamont Township Supervisor Mike Shackle and John Quinn, first vice president of the Lemont Area Historical Society, offered personal remembrances. Speakers recounted Bushman’s work on two town history books, leadership on the I&M Canal commission, service as a village trustee for 16 years and roles on the Historic Preservation Commission, Downtown Development and Festival Committee and the police pension commission. Family members Michael and Amy were acknowledged in the audience.
Quinn and others urged residents to consult Bushman’s historical volumes at the historical society and noted her role in saving and adaptively reusing buildings such as St. James Academy. The mayor read a list of awards and honors Bushman received over the years and said her volunteerism "made Lemont a better place."
The board’s recognition was ceremonial; no formal action beyond the honorary street naming was recorded at the meeting.
