MCPS staff outline Carver remediation plan, propose warehouse relocation in CIP

MCPS staff outlined progress on remediation at the Carver Educational Services Center and confirmed warehouse funding and a multi-year plan to replace the central office headquarters.
Dr. Handy, president of the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals, and others testified about chronic mold, pests and asbestos concerns at Carver. Staff responded that the district had temporarily relocated employees while significant cleaning and remediation work was underway and that the facility is scheduled to return to full operational status the Monday after the hearing following final cleaning.
Staff also said the CIP includes a centrally listed project for a Central Office Headquarters (Carver Educational Services Center replacement) with funding in later fiscal years of the FY27–32 CIP and additional funding in out years. Separately, staff said a consent item planned for the Oct. 30 meeting would address a materials management warehouse relocation with initial capital added to right‑size the district's warehouse needs.
Board members asked for timelines and clarifications; staff indicated the warehouse relocation would be presented as a board consent item on Oct. 30 and that Carver replacement planning funding appears in later years of the superintendent's six-year CIP proposal.
