The Public Safety and Health Committee on Oct. 23 recommended adoption of a substitute resolution to amend the city—s acceptance of part of the 2025 WIC breastfeeding peer-counseling grant, reducing the previously anticipated grant award by $40,000 to align with the state contract and allocation.
A department staff member told the committee the change reflects the state WIC office's contract-level allocation and that the city expects to seek the remainder of funding in a later action. Committee members asked whether a federal government shutdown could affect disbursement; staff said the funding is federal dollars administered by the state WIC office and that the city remains in frequent contact with the state to monitor any impacts but that, as of the meeting, the state-managed funds remained available.
Alderman Bergales moved to recommend adoption; the committee approved the recommendation by unanimous consent. The committee asked the department to provide updates to the committee if the state advises any funding changes due to federal or state developments.
