The City Commission approved the annual interlocal agreement with Pampa Independent School District (PISD) for school officers and campus security services.
Chief Lance explained the agreement is reviewed each year; this years changes stem from officer pay raises, which altered the districts share of costs, and from updated charges for officers assigned to school events. He told the commission the agreements structure remains largely the same and is adjusted to reflect the recent pay increases.
During discussion, commissioners asked whether the current two-person coverage model would change. Chief Lance said the city currently has one officer assigned primarily to the high school and one who floats to junior high and elementary campuses; he said he did not see an immediate shift to a different model but noted two possible futures: the district could rely more on the Guardian program (trained, armed school staff) without SROs, or the city could eventually place an SRO on each campus.
A commissioner asked whether the agreement was budgeted; staff said the cost changes are budgeted. The motion to approve the interlocal agreement carried on a voice vote.
