Parks Director Jesse Rice reported that staff completed LED sports-field lighting for five fields at the Burton Boulevard Soccer Complex and recommended council accept the project and release retainage if no contractor issues remain.
Rice said the city received $727,000 from a 2022 legislative request (after state administrative withholding) and used additional LTGO bond proceeds to fund the full installation; combined funding and retainage left the project about $40,000 under the proposed total. The LED fixtures focus illumination on fields and reduce off-site light spill, Rice said, which staff noted as a neighborhood benefit.
Council members, including former coaches, praised the safety and programming benefits of lighting fields for evening practices. Staff recommended adoption of a resolution accepting the installation by Musco Sports.
What happens next: staff will return a resolution accepting the work and, if there are no outstanding concerns, will release retainage to the contractor.
