Pampa commission OKs application for federal grant to add generators at two fire stations

The City Commission of the City of Pampa on a motion and second voted to adopt Resolution R25-O26 authorizing submission of an application to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to install backup generators at Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 2.

Staff member Troy told commissioners the city currently lacks generators at those stations and that a loss of power affects heating, cooling, bay doors and radio communications. "If we can get this, it'll solve that problem for us," Troy said.

Troy gave an estimate of the project "close to $52,000" and said the grant would cover 75% with a local 25% match. He stated the citys share would be "around $12.13 grand". Staff said the grant application must be submitted by Nov. 1 and, if awarded, the city would fund the match via a budget amendment and by drawing from reserves; a separate comment in the discussion referenced "pull that 25,000 from reserves," which staff did not reconcile on the record.

Commissioners asked whether the expense was budgeted; staff replied it was not included in the current budget and would be handled with a budget amendment if the grant is awarded. The motion to adopt the resolution carried with voice votes of "aye"; no opposing votes were recorded on the audio transcript.
