Talent Ready Utah leaders asked the legislative committee to support a targeted workforce accelerator focused on energy, artificial intelligence and ‘‘deep tech,’’ saying coordinated investments in K–12 pathways, higher‑education credentials and incumbent worker upskilling are needed to meet projected demand.
"We really exist to represent the voice of industry," said Vic Cockett, associate commissioner, Talent Ready Utah, Utah System of Higher Education. He described the agency’s data‑driven model for convening employers, education providers and agencies to identify gaps and design programs that produce local hires. "We convene industry. We convene government education providers to really understand what are the big workforce pain points around the state," he said.
