The Division of Technology Services (DTS) summarized its annual work to modernize state IT systems and to protect state and local government networks.
DTS said it has migrated multiple major systems to the cloud (core financials, tax system, Medicaid, offender tracking, unemployment), upgraded enterprise HR/payroll and other platforms, and will launch a citizen MyUtah portal in beta in January. The division said these upgrades were completed at a fraction of the cost other states reported for comparable projects.
DTS also described its statewide cybersecurity program, which provides training and endpoint protection to cities, counties and special districts. The division reported more than 35,000 local-government participants trained and over 30,000 protected endpoints; DTS said it had helped prevent numerous major ransomware incidents in the past 18 months. DTS also reported deploying generative-AI productivity tools to state employees and said usage already exceeds 250,000 monthly interactions.
Officials said they will continue to refine customer-experience metrics and tie identified customer pain points to concrete projects and fiscal estimates so the legislature can evaluate the impact of technology modernization on service delivery and costs.
Next steps: DTS will expand the MyUtah portal, continue cybersecurity outreach, and provide more granular customer-experience reporting to legislative staff.
