Milford board approves change order to add JV softball field as middle school project nears closeout

The Milford Exempted Village Board of Education approved a change order Oct. 16 to restore a planned junior varsity softball field that was omitted from earlier civil drawings for the new middle school project.

Facilities staff told trustees the JV softball field had been intended in earlier planning but was left out of the construction scope during a prior design/construction phase. "It was kind of a miss in the original, a miscommunication," a facilities representative said, explaining the district must add the field to meet expectations and Title IX considerations for facilities.

The change order covers a modest layout for a JV field similar to the freshman baseball field, with a backstop and team benches but no permanent bleachers. Facilities staff said the field—s home plate will be about 300 feet from the sidewalk on Eagles Way and that the area will otherwise be grass for practice use.

The board moved and approved the proposal worksheet summary form for driveway grading and the softball field by roll call; Missus Will, Missus Powers, Mister Wilson, Missus Chestnut and Missus Mason were recorded as voting yes.

In a construction update earlier in the meeting, staff reported that sidewalks were being finished, poor soils near the tennis court had been mitigated, and paving was scheduled pending weather. The district said it will add additional handicapped spaces and signage near the Miranda Sports Complex to improve accessibility, and owner training on building systems has begun as part of closeout activity.

Staff said the district expects to finish punch-list items and move toward closeout by the end of the month, while noting some follow-up work will remain for owner training and minor fixes.
