Public Art Commission extends downtown sculpture display, plans mural grant expansion

The Concord Public Art Commission told council on Oct. 14 that it has extended the downtown sculpture display for an additional year and revised its work plan to stay within the current fiscal-year budget.
The commission reported two newly appointed members, one resignation due to relocation and reelection of the chair and vice chair. The commission said staff created a new SharePoint folder to simplify access to shared materials and the commission has proposed a standardized timeline for promotion of future projects through city communications.
To stretch its current budget, the commission voted internally to keep the current downtown sculptures in place for two years going forward (the prior plan had envisioned a one-year initial placement then two-year cycles). The commission also said it increased funding for its mural-assistant grant program to encourage grassroots murals around town. Projects described are at an early stage and will return to the commission for review and approval as needed.
The commission chair apologized for fewer public updates in recent months and said the group is resuming a regular reporting cadence. No council action was required.
