Wendell — The Board of Commissioners approved two brownfields-related task orders under the town's EPA-funded grant program, including a Phase II environmental site assessment (ESA) for 21 West Boxley Drive and budget adjustments reconciling prior task-order estimates with actual costs.
Brownfields program staff told the board Task Order 22 is a newly authorized Phase II ESA for 21 West Boxley Drive (an address adjacent to the town's former landfill) with an assigned not-to-exceed amount of $74,600 to complete the investigation. Task Order 23 contains cost adjustments across nine previously authorized task orders to reflect actual expenditures for work completed (including asbestos and lead-based-paint reporting and HUD environmental review efforts at Pleasant Grove). Staff said all changes remain within the overall EPA grant allocation.
The town moved and approved the task orders and authorized the town manager or his designee to sign the documents.
What it does: The Phase II assessment will test for subsurface contamination where a Phase I assessment or site history indicated potential concerns; the adjustments in Task Order 23 reconcile the grant-funded project accounting as work advanced.
Funding and next steps: Staff said the task orders are funded through the EPA brownfields grant and the project team will proceed with the Phase II fieldwork and reporting. The results will inform any required remediation or future redevelopment planning.
