The South Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education adopted a budget development calendar for the 2026–27 school year and approved multiple routine business items during its Oct. 27 meeting.
The board approved the proposed budget development calendar as presented by Mr. Conway. The public hearing on the budget was set for May 6 and the budget vote for May 19, 2026. Mr. Conway described the calendar as consistent with historical timelines and adjusted as needed for required public hearing and mailing notice dates.
The board then approved two budget transfers that required board approval under Board policy 5330 because they exceeded $35,000. The first transfer was for $100,000 to cover resource‑room services provided to students with disabilities in accordance with individual education programs (IEPs). The second transfer was for $220,000 to cover general liability insurance and related coverage (automobile, general liability, etc.). Both transfers were presented by Mr. Conway and were approved by motion.
Other routine items approved included:
- Declaring 127 copies of the district's integrated mathematics textbook obsolete because they are no longer aligned to current standards, on a request from the supervisor of math and science.
- Approval to send three teachers to a national dual‑language conference; costs will be paid primarily from the Title II professional development grant.
- A resolution to provide annual travel allowances to the supervisor of educational technology and the supervisor of data and STEAM initiatives to reimburse a portion of business mileage when employees use personal vehicles; the board clarified the amounts listed are per school year.
- Acceptance of recommendations for placements by the Committees on Special Education and Preschool Special Education for dates in July–October.
- Approval of multiple personnel schedules (schedules 4, 9, 13, 20 and 22).
Each item was moved and approved on the record; the transcript records motions and ‘‘All in favor? Any opposed?’’ without a roll‑call tally.
Provenance: The matters on the budget calendar, transfers, obsolete textbooks, conference approval, travel allowances, special education placements and personnel appear in the transcript between the new business items beginning at 00:41:09 and the personnel/committee reports concluding before the board comments segment.
