Bee County approves mutual-aid transportation MOU with Real Transportation; company outlines same-day service expansion

Bee County Commissioners Court voted Oct. 14 to approve a mutual aid agreement with Real Transportation that formalizes the company's ability to assist with evacuations and coordinated transport during emergencies.
"This agreement would formalize our ability to assist one another during times of crisis by enabling the coordinated sharing of transportation resources, personnel and logistical support," Joel Benavides, mobility manager with Real Transportation, told the court.
Benavides reported that the company launched a same-day "flash" service March 3 and is studying usage patterns to expand hours. He said Real Transportation seeks to expand service hours to roughly 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and to continue outreach to riders who rely on the service. Commissioners asked that Real Transportation work with the county emergency-management coordinator to align evacuation plans and to ensure the county has driver resources and coordination in a large incident. The court approved the MOU with a technical edit (removal of a now-inapplicable "Buchanan Judge Pro Tem" clause) and instructed staff to share the document with the emergency-management office.
Motion and second were recorded and the item passed without exception. Court members praised the company's service to residents with limited mobility and encouraged continued coordination for evacuation planning.
