The Camden County Board of Commissioners approved two items tied to emergency planning and local infrastructure: a memorandum of agreement for inland sheltering and authorization for staff to work with the City of St. Marys to provide an easement for a state-funded trail segment.
Chuck White, director of Emergency Management, asked the board to approve a memorandum of agreement with the adjacent jurisdiction and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to provide inland shelter locations for Camden County evacuees during emergencies. White said the agreement formalizes arrangements to transport vulnerable residents who cannot self-evacuate and to coordinate shelter destinations; the board approved the MOA.
County staff also presented a request to grant the county administrator authority to negotiate and work with the City of St. Marys on an easement related to a state grant-funded 10-foot trail segment. Staff said the project will improve pedestrian safety near the Tabby Ruins site and that the requested easement will be returned to the board for formal survey approval and final action.
Both motions carried. Staff said they will return final surveys and documented easement language to the commission for approval before construction or conveyance.
