Huron council approves multi-unit labor agreements with wage and health-care terms

The Huron City Council approved a package of amended labor agreements covering multiple bargaining units. Resolutions 71–74 authorize the city manager to execute amended agreements with the Fraternal Order of Police (sergeants and patrol), the International Association of Firefighters Local 4168, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2024 for the period Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027.
Interim City Manager Stuart Hamilton explained the bargaining units agreed to changes tied to the city’s recent insurance procurement: staff contribution to health-care premiums was raised from 6% to 8% of the total premium, and the contracts include a healthcare reopener that triggers if costs increase beyond a negotiated threshold (20%). Wage increases were negotiated as a 3% increase for 2026 and 3.25% for 2027 to close contracts for the period.
Council adopted each resolution by roll-call votes. Hamilton and council commended the unions for cooperation during negotiations and described the agreements as a way to provide stability for two years while protecting the city from unexpectedly large healthcare cost swings.
