Board approves consent items, preschool funding application and tentative labor agreements

The motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; the board voted unanimously: Jason Remenzi: Yes; Jake Odello: Yes; Sarah Hines: Yes; Matt Glaser: Yes; Rita Patel: Yes.
The board approved a revised Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators to be submitted to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Chief Human Resources Officer Craig Chavez said the amendment responds to an identified need in Spanish and allows time for a staff member and county analysts to complete credential requirements. The vote was unanimous with the same five recorded "Yes" votes.
Labor agreements and bargaining-related items:
- Tentative agreement with California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 190: The board approved a multi-year successor agreement (20242027) including language and agreements on hours/overtime, salary and wages, grievance procedures, safety conditions, leaves, disciplinary procedures and the reclassification study. The CSEA ratified the agreement prior to board action; AB 1200 public disclosure documents required for county review were submitted. Vote: unanimous (Remenzi, Odello, Hines, Glaser, Patel voting Yes).
- Tentative agreement with the Association of Carmel Teachers (ACT): The board approved the ACT tentative agreement, which sets the teacher contract term for 20242027 and addresses inclusion of child development teachers in the bargaining unit and contract applicability to that group. Vote: unanimous (Remenzi, Odello, Hines, Glaser, Patel voting Yes).
- The board received sunshine proposals from ACT on salary/wages and unit-member health and welfare benefits; the districts initial bargaining proposal to ACT (covering salary/wages, health/welfare benefits and unit-member evaluation updates to align with updated California Standards for the Teaching Profession) was adopted for negotiation.
