Consultant introduces 'Vision 0 Pecos' study to pursue Safe Streets for All grant

Eric Stevens, transportation practice leader at Foresight Group, told the council his firm was the prospective awardee for the city's Safe Streets for All program and outlined a Vision Zero planning effort the firm would lead.
Stevens said the firm has prepared similar plans for counties and cities and that the Pecos study would be accelerated to a five-month schedule so the city could compete for the next round of Safe Streets for All funding in the spring. "Vision 0 is a noble goal with the idea of eliminating all fatal and severe crashes in your community," Stevens said, adding the approach looks at policies, education, enforcement and projects.
He described stakeholder engagement that will include monthly committee meetings, two public meetings, electronic outreach and a project website planned as "Vision 0 Pecos." Stevens said the plan will complement regional planning efforts already underway and will coordinate with Reeves County and Permian Basin planning bodies.
Stevens said the firm would work with staff on a contract and would return to council with updates and public engagement dates. Council did not take formal action at the presentation.
