District staff cited the previously estimated capital plan cost reported in prior documents (described in the meeting as approximately $164,000,000 in prior‑year dollars) and emphasized that further design work and subsequent costs will be developed iteratively. Committee members asked staff to document any timeline slips and to provide a month‑by‑month schedule (for example, a bar chart) showing original and current milestones when future materials are presented to the board.
Committee members and staff discussed design decisions that could reduce temporary classroom costs during construction. Staff said architects are proposing alternatives that might lower the previously projected $3,000,000 for additional modular classrooms during construction by identifying ways to preserve existing instructional spaces. Staff also reiterated that the renovation schedule is being coordinated with decisions about building controls and major mechanical work so that control‑system vendor selection can be competitive across multiple projects.
Staff said they will return with a recommended finalist and supporting cost and financing information in early November, and that the board will be asked to consider next steps after the district has completed due diligence on scope and affordability.
