New Iberia approves engineering contract for street improvements, amends supply bid awards

The New Iberia City Council approved Resolution 25-124 to award Bayard Habits & Associates a contract to start engineering for a citywide street-improvement project using $500,000 in state funds. Councilmembers said completing engineering now positions the city to bid construction if additional state funds are awarded next year.
Council discussed the lifespan and reuse of engineering drawings and the desire to complete design work while contractors and crews are available. The mayor said the engineering work would support a planned $5,000,000 construction ask next year and help maintain momentum on a multi-year road program.
On procurement, the council considered Resolution 25-119 for six- and 12-month bids. Staff requested postponement of the road-materials award while they resolved questions about submitted proposals. The council amended the motion to remove the road-materials award from tonight's approval and to split the 30-yard dumpster contracts between Republic Services (street sweeper, yard waste, construction debris dumpsters) and Waste Connections Bayou (household debris dumpsters). The amended motion carried.
Council members said they will return with the road-materials recommendation after staff completes bid-spec reviews and that the engineering award to Bayard Habits is contingent on approval from the Office of Facility Planning and Control.
