Kings County agricultural output rises to $2.445 billion in 2024, led by milk and pistachios

Kings County's Agricultural Commissioner presented the 2024 crop report at the Oct. 21 meeting, reporting a total gross value of $2,445,306,000 — a 13.4% increase from 2023. The top commodities by value were milk (~$812 million) and pistachios (~$289.6 million), followed by cattle and calves, processing tomatoes, and other high‑value crops.
The agricultural office said livestock and poultry products rose by about $110 million (15.7%), driven primarily by higher milk prices and production; field crops increased by roughly $71 million (21.4%); and fruit and nut crops increased by about $27 million (4%). The office noted no category declines this year and credited producers for responding to market conditions. The commissioner recognized the Boswell family on their 100th year in business and thanked staff who compiled historical data dating back to 1941.
Supervisors asked about the number and acreage of farms; staff said active permits typically number between 800 and 900 and that the trend shows fewer farms with larger acreages as consolidation continues. The board accepted the report.
