The board received a first reading of proposed HIPAA-policy revisions to reflect a business-associate relationship with the RWC consortium and related updates to incident-response and IT policies.
Staff explained that when the county’s HIPAA policies were drafted the business-associate relationship with the regional consortium had not been fully incorporated; after identifying the omission the county must update its business-associate policy language and related sections in the organizational applicability and incident policies. The county’s consultant and counsel assisted with the revisions.
IT policy language that governs remote-meeting software was also tightened; staff said the county currently uses Microsoft Teams and that restrictions or requirements for vendor agreements and security would be clarified in the IT policy manual. The changes were presented for first reading and will return for board consideration.
