The Machesney Park Planning and Economic Development Committee on Oct. 6 recommended the village adopt Winnebago County's updated multi‑hazard mitigation plan by forwarding Resolution 69‑R‑25 to the Oct. 20 board meeting with a positive recommendation.
Staff explained that the village adopted the county's multi‑hazard mitigation plan about five years earlier and that FEMA requires local jurisdictions to update and adopt these plans every five years to remain eligible for FEMA disaster assistance and certain mitigation grants. The updated plan identifies hazards such as flooding, thunderstorms and tornadoes, and assesses risks and mitigation strategies for the county and participating municipalities.
Resolution 69‑R‑25 approves the village's adoption of the updated plan, which Winnebago County will submit to FEMA for approval. The committee recorded no questions and voted to forward the resolution to the village board with a positive recommendation.
