Downtown parklet proposal moves forward after vendor revises bid; board to consider 20-year lease term

Nathan Browning, parks and recreation director, presented updates on a proposed downtown improvement grant and associated parklet project. Browning said the contractor (Grant Donnelly) amended his proposal so the project could be completed within the current budget and that civil-engineering and procurement tasks were included in the contractor’s scope.
Board members discussed lease-term options with the property owner and Main Street representatives; staff said the owner indicated willingness to extend a lease beyond the original 10-year term and 20 years was discussed. Browning said renderings and a proposed tourism mural were supplied; the mural would not be funded by the grant but was discussed as an ancillary enhancement.
City attorney and staff reviewed lease terms and noted that, if the owner were to transfer the building during the lease period, the lease would run with the property and remain in effect. The board voted to move the item forward to the next meeting and asked staff to circulate renderings and detailed contract language before formal action.
