Policy committee approves intent on GPA policy; AR to hold calculation details

The policy committee reviewed proposed updates to Policy 2-14 on computing grade point average and agreed to forward the policy framework while assigning technical computation details to its administrative regulation (AR).
Staff told the committee the policy will remain focused on "what" the district requires and that the AR will be rewritten to specify calculation methodology. A counseling department representative advised that courses taken at Eastern count toward a student’s Upper Dublin GPA if the student is enrolled at Upper Dublin while taking the Eastern course; staff said that guidance informed the current language.
Committee members pressed for corrections to the AR to reflect the district’s block schedule — noting previous AR language described courses meeting five or more times per week, which no longer applies — and emphasized the AR should be brought back to the board with proposed technical changes. Trustee John Held and others said they preferred leaving methodology in the AR rather than the policy, calling the AR the appropriate place for operational detail.
The committee moved Policy 2-14 forward to legislative review and directed staff to revise the AR to align with the district’s current schedule and to return the AR for board information.
