The Caribou Utilities District Board of Trustees met Oct. 8 and took several routine motions and votes.
Minutes and financial reports: Trustees moved and approved minutes from the Sept. 10 monthly meeting and accepted the budget and financial reports for the period ending Sept. 2025. Staff explained that some accounts showed negative monthly figures because of reclassifications; the amounts were offset in other account lines.
Personnel: Trustees approved a request, made at a prior meeting, to grant one additional week of paid vacation per year to a district employee. The motion to grant the additional week was moved, seconded and approved during the meeting.
Resignation: The board acknowledged receipt of a letter of resignation from trustee Gary Aiken, effective Sept. 19, 2025. Applications to fill the vacancy are available at the district office on Limestone Street and at the city clerk’s office.
Rates and administrative items: Staff confirmed a wastewater rate adopted as part of a five‑year plan in 2021 will be in effect for November billing: $275 per year (about $0.42 per month); staff estimated this yields roughly $9,000 annually across about 1,800 customers. Trustees discussed the upcoming window to apply a 1.5% water rate adjustment without a full rate case, which opens in January and would affect February billing; staff plans to present proposed rates next month.
Meeting schedule: Trustees set the next regular meeting for Nov. 12 and tentatively agreed to move December’s meeting from Dec. 10 to Dec. 17 pending room availability.
Provenance: Motions to approve minutes and accept financial reports appear at 00:03:34 and 00:04:01; the personnel vacation motion appears at 00:18:38; the resignation announcement appears at 00:18:17; the wastewater rate timing appears at 00:19:08.
