Daviess County to advertise 2026 highway paving and supplies bids; commissioners keep current opening process

Daviess County Highway Department staff notified the commissioners that sealed bids will be received for 2026 work and supplies, including paving various county roads and supplying asphalt emulsions and preservative seal emulsions. The announcement listed items that will be bid for 2026: lubricating oil, culverts, concrete, flowable fill, sand, crushed stone, precast items, bridge and engineering packages, calcium chloride and related materials. Bids will be submitted to the Daviess County Auditor's office and will be opened at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 28 at 300 East Tefaron Street, as stated in the notice.
Commissioners discussed whether the bid opening could be streamlined or conducted at a special public meeting so that fewer officials needed to be present. Staff and the auditor noted the auditor must attend public bid openings and that the public bidders value seeing other bids read aloud. After discussion, the board approved keeping the advertisement and the current bid-opening process as published; the motion passed 2-0.
