Tyler ISD reports rising AP scores and expanding dual-credit and CTE certifications

Dual credit: Dr. Walls reported 1,495 dual-credit enrollments at the fall snapshot and projected the year’s total will approach 3,000 students as additional enrollments finalize. The dual-credit total includes Early College High School students; Dr. Walls said dual-credit growth has broadened college-credit access beyond traditional AP pathways.
CTE and industry-based certifications: The district reported increasing CTE industry-based certification counts and a rising share of completers (students completing three or more courses and earning an IBC). Dr. Walls noted expansions into community-need areas such as a jailer academy and telecommunicator training; some certifications now align directly to credential and workforce pathways.
Why it matters: AP and dual-credit outcomes feed into college and career readiness (CCMR) measures and campus accountability; higher dual-credit participation can expand college-credit attainment while CTE completers provide pathways to certificates and local employment. Dr. Walls said last year’s CCMR rate was 89 percent, a level she described as meeting a high performance threshold.
