The Lufkin City Council approved on second reading an ordinance to rezone the property at 4636 Newsome Avenue to allow the two existing structures formerly used as a daycare to be converted into a single residential duplex.
City staff described the site and nearby uses, including CHI St. Luke's Health, Pineywoods Physicians and several small apartment complexes. Staff said it received one letter in opposition from within the 200-foot notification area and no letters in support in that notification area. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval by a 4โ1 vote. The council conducted a public hearing; no members of the public stepped to speak and the council then voted to approve the ordinance on second reading.
The meeting record shows the public hearing opened for the item and closed with no public speakers; the council then moved, seconded and carried the ordinance on a voice vote.
